Turkish Van in her homeland many times living as semiwild life. In summer geting long trip do wildnes and to winter are closing to home. Her is well swimer and on rivers haunting fish, or in hot summer time geting colder bath in cold water. Old name for Turkish Van is Turkish Water cat or Turkish Swiming Cat.

Most significant on this breed is her colour. Cats are chalk white on body with colour tail and spot on head dividet to two spots between ears. This typical colour is calling "Van" and other breeds. spots on head is not marking to ears and not down then eyes. On tail colour making dark and lights rings. On standarts is tolerant to three other spots on body, but this not good. Original colour is auburn, in other breed calling as red (not very poetic). Allowance colour is too cream, black, blue and tortoise. Very important is eye colour. Allowance colour is Amber (not poetic orange), blue or combination (odd eye). Cats with odd eye is only to 5%, but still more then other breeds. Many times are amber eyes light greenish, this is very big problem. This very exacting rules are very interesting for realy breeders and not for multiply-breeders, but on other side cause little expansion this rare breed. For this breed on first time saying, unique temperament and unique look.

Turkish Van have ideal body proportion to highland enviroment in east turkey. Is it middle cat, between 3,5 and 6 kilograms, but in USA is bit bigger about 9 kilograms, it's not like for me because looks little like maine-coon, to big to cat. Body is long, very strong musculature, but not fat. Must be big and elegant together, Must look smooth! Musculature is expressive most on neck and shoulder. Musculature on legs is created good runner and very good jumper. Semi-long fell is very density, but without undercoat, only long overcoat is very rare and looks like kashmir. On Body is light open, extra viewing when cats moving. Diference between summer and winter coat is significant. In Summer hot must isolated from hot, in on cold winter from cold, and after wet must quickly dried. With large frill and fur pants on rear legs. Very well fur tail is used as pillow or wrap when sleep or relax. This nice attribute is growing very long time about three to five years. Turkish Vans not have any medical or genetical problem. Some cats are big feeder or again little feeder.

Unique temperament is typically for this breed, some breeders don't know if have dog or cat. Love and fix it to one person or family as dog. Is independent, but still must have company and interest, such is jealousy. Is very inteligent, teachable and foxy, assertive behaviour and self-head. Her lovely looks used as psychological weapon. Need hard and consequent training. But her love is big, nuzzle her nose on your nose, get kiss (with teeth "Auu", from love), and still look what you doing. Her have like and must be in people company!

Turkish Van is very playful and agile, still moving some toy or other things(what not for cats) in home, best place is kitchen. Still guarding her locality by walking or from high place. Not love closed place, still must have review on all her home.
